The 38 square kilometre Kantela gold property is located in western Mali, 500 kilometres west of the capital Bamako, 85 kilometres south of the regional center of Kayes, and 10 kilometres southeast of the multimillion ounce Sadiola gold mine (AngloGold-Iamgold).
North Atlantic Resources Ltd. has verified three gold-bearing zones on the Kantela gold project (100% interest). Zone 1 is a 350 m by 50 m northeast-trending area of closely-spaced artisanal workings coincident with gold in soil anomalies up to 661 ppb. Zone 2 is on the east side of Zone 1 and is a 1.2 km long by 1 kilometre wide northeast-trending area of anomalous gold in soil samples within a deformed 2 kilometre diameter granitic intrusion.
Zone 3 is 1 kilometre northeast of Zone 2 and consists of outcropping quartz breccia within an argillite sequence. The quartz breccia outcrops contain visible gold and rock samples from the zone contain 40 to 50 g/t gold.
Drilling at the Kantela gold project in 2005 continued to intersect gold-bearing stratigraphy at Zone 2 and Zone 3 including an intersection of 57 metres grading 1.05 g/t gold (including 5 metres grading 2.03 g/t gold) from Zone 2 and 20 metres grading 4.22 g/t gold at Zone 3. In 2004, 10,000 metres of reverse circulation drilling and 1,729 metres of diamond drilling were completed at Zones 2 and 3. A 75 kilometre gradient and pole-dipole induced polarization survey was also completed.
1.77 g/t gold over 13 metres, 1.05 g/t gold over 57 metres and 4.22 g/t gold over 20 metres
North Atlantic Resources intends to complete preliminary 3D modeling of Zone 2 to determine the shape, size and grade of the gold zone.
